I had a fun and fabulous time at City Lights Bookstore in San Francisco – they’re my heroes. Very glad I didn’t mortify myself in front of Lawrence Ferlinghetti – but that was no doubt because he wasn’t present.
I’m not going to lie – I’m a little in love (or a LOT) with the children’s book buyers there, Jeff and Tan. They’re so enthusiastic about the book and so kind to me…and yet sooo cool in the understated hip, urban way one associates with successful indie bookstore personnel.
A heady time, but it’s back to reality for me. A very nice teacher from a school in Redwood City sent me an email inviting me to visit. Sounds great – but I somehow deleted her email (typical cluster brain) and now have no way of contacting her. In typical Kristin fashion, I am now ruminating on this – and the fact that when I don’t respond, she’s going to take it as worse than a lack of interest, but downright RUDENESS – and then tell her students what a witch I am. They in turn will tell two friends, who’ll tell two friends etc. and so I’ll become pretty much the most hated person of the class of 2017. Sure they’re just fifth grader now – but they are the future.

I plead major deadline for the new book. If I were you, I’d just check back in a month or so to see if that Venuti woman has posted anything new. Maybe by then I will have! In the mean time, check out my calendar – at least I’m managing to update that!

I’m back from the mountains. I’m buckling down to work but finding myself a wee distracted. I don’t mean to whine, but zombies and sea cave hobos are NOTHING compared to the complications of home life with gravely ill cats, and teens who don’t yet drive, and young adults who are heading back to college, and young adults who are auditioning for conservatories… and the news that there are fanged frogs in the world.

That’s right. Froggies with fangs. I’m a little obsessed here. Apparently sixteen new species of frogs have been discovered in a remote volcano in Papua New Guinea. I don’t care about the others…but the ones with fangs???? What I want to know is how big are the flies in the Bosavi volcano? Are they big enough for a froggie to make like Edward Cullen? Do flies have necks? These are important questions to ponder. Later. After I’m done revising the next chapter.

Welcome to my blog. I promise to update it once I get back.
I’m currently tucked away in a Northern California cabin. It’s a lot like Santa’s workshop. Only with less snow and no elves. There have been zombie sightings, but no sea cave hoboes thank goodness.
Come to think of it… it’s nothing like Santa’s workshop, except for the magic.
I’m conjuring the sequel to Leaving the Bellweathers. It’s tentatively titled (how’s THAT for a nifty bit of alliteration? Here’s some more:) The Butler gets a Break.
Wish me luck and love.
